Works in Progress: Photography in China 2015

From May 15- September 13, 2015, nine German museums in the Rhine and Ruhr regions of Gemany simultaneously showcase contemporary Chinese art, this collective project is called, China8. The Folkwang Museum in Essen, renowned for its photography collection and programs, exhibits Chinese contemporary photography.

In the framework of the major project curators William A. Ewing and Holly Roussell Perret-Gentil survey this fluid scene from a novel perspective: given the widely-held consensus that rapid change characterises every aspect of 21st-century Chinese life, they have tried to grasp what is happening right now: taking, so to speak, a ‘snapshot’ of Chinese photography in 2015.

The exhibition takes a wide-angle view, looking not just at the well-known practitioners, but searching for fine photographers whose work may not be getting the attention it deserves internationally.

With works by:
Adou, Alfred Ko, Aspartime, Cai Dongdong, Chen Shaoxiong, Chen Wei, Du Yanfang, Eason Tsang Ka Wai, Jiang Pengyi, Li Zhengde, Liang Weizhou, Lin Ke, MA DAHA, Ma Qiusha, Mo Yi, Shan Feiming, Shao Wenhuan, South Ho Siu Nam, Wang Ningde, Wang Qingsong, Wang Youshen, Xiao Xiao, Zhuang Hui, Zong Ning

The exhibition was accompanied by a major catalogue in English and German.
